- I've noticed that the average file transfer speed for my generic Rockwell
- chip 14.4k modem is anywhere from 1.4 to .7 kilobytes per second for
- binaries.
-
- I realize that there can be a number of factors influencing actual data flow
- such as the number of other users on downloading data from the same site at
- the same time, but it just seems like file transfers ought to be averaging
- much more than one tenth of the modem's maximum speed, especially when I'm
- using 19,200 compression (which my ISP supports).
-
- If there's something I need to understand about it, I'd certainly appreciate
- someone explaining it to me.
